Dify

Build agentic workflows in a UI, then expose each one as an MCP tool — Claude calls your Dify-authored apps.

Dify is a popular open-source platform for building LLM apps and agent workflows. Its MCP layer lets Claude treat each Dify app as a callable tool, so workflows authored in Dify show up alongside your other MCP tools.

  "mcpServers": {
    "dify-mcp": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@dify/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config. Restart after saving.

~/.cursor/mcp.json · .cursor/mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "dify-mcp": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@dify/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Cursor uses the same mcpServers schema as Claude Desktop. Project config wins over global.

VS Code → Cline → MCP Servers → Edit

      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@dify/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Click the MCP Servers icon in the Cline sidebar, then "Edit Configuration".

~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

      "args": [

        "@dify/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Same shape as Claude Desktop. Restart Windsurf to pick up changes.

~/.continue/config.json
{
  "mcpServers": [
    {
      "name": "dify-mcp",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@dify/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  ]
}

Continue uses an array of server objects rather than a map.

~/.config/zed/settings.json
{
  "context_servers": {
    "dify-mcp": {
      "command": {
        "path": "npx",

          "-y",
          "@dify/mcp-server"
        ]
      }
    }
  }
}

Add to context_servers. Zed hot-reloads on save.

claude mcp add dify-mcp -- npx -y @dify/mcp-server

One-liner. Verify with claude mcp list. Remove with claude mcp remove.

Use Cases

Real-world ways to use Dify

Expose a Dify workflow to Claude as a single tool

👤 Developers ⏱ ~15 min intermediate

When to use: You built a multi-step workflow in Dify and want Claude to invoke it as one call.

Flow
  1. Author
    Build the workflow in Dify.✓ Copied
    → Workflow publishes
  2. Expose
    Enable the MCP endpoint for the app.✓ Copied
    → Tool listed
  3. Call
    Claude calls it like any other MCP tool.✓ Copied
    → Result returns

Outcome: Complex Dify workflow callable from Claude in one shot.

Combinations

Tools

What this MCP exposes

ToolInputsWhen to callCost
workflow.run (see docs) Run a named Dify workflow 1 call
dataset.query (see docs) Query a Dify-managed dataset 1 call

Cost & Limits

What this costs to run

API quota
Plan-dependent on cloud; unlimited self-host
Tokens per call
Per workflow
Monetary
Free OSS self-host; SaaS plans
Tip
Self-host for high-volume internal tools

Security

Permissions, secrets, blast radius

Minimum scopes: dify:app:run
Credential storage: OAuth tokens / API keys in env
Data egress: Dify-configured providers
Never grant: Expose internal workflows to anonymous callers
